Kanopolis State Park

The first state park in Kansas, Kanopolis State Park is situated in the rolling hills, bluffs and woods of the scenic Smoky Hills region of the state. From the towering Dakota sandstone bluffs to the caves and crevices of Horsethief Canyon, the park offers rugged beauty and stunning vistas.

Coronado Heights

Coronado Heights is the southern-most bluff in a series of seven, known as the Smoky Hills. Native Dakota sandstone was used to build the castle and picnic areas, creating the perfect opportunity for a picnic, flying kites, hiking or riding the off-road bike trails. Don’t forget your camera, it’s a favorite of photographers and artists alike.

This 4.5 mile all-weather bicycle and pedestrian trail was converted from abandoned rail beds. The trail meanders through Lindsborg and is free for public use year round. At the trail’s southern end, enjoy the sights and sounds of nature while walking across the refurbished railroad bridge.

Maxwell Wildlife Refuge

Home to one of the few surviving Buffalo and Elk herds, Maxwell Wildlife refuge is great for viewing wildflowers, varied migrating birds, and of course, bison and elk! It’s another favored destination for photographers and artists!
